Tim Hetherington, an Academy Award winning photojournalist, was killed Wednesday in Misrata, Libya. While covering the recent conflict, he was attacked by mortar fire and fought for his life untill he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital in Misrata.

Hetherington’s film Restrepo, a documentary about a platoon of U.S soldiers located in Korengal, Afghanistan, was nominated for an Oscar and took home the “Grand Jury Prize for a Documentary” during the Sundance Film Festival in 2010. Hetherington was also a contributor for Vanity Fair magazine and was currently working in Libya for a project about humanitarian issues that arised due to the recent conflict.
Dairy, Tim’s most recent video project, is a true testament of his dedication and willingness to put his life on the line for his craft. According to Hetherington, “Diary is a highly personal and experimental film that expresses the subjective experience of my work, and was made as an attempt to locate myself after ten years of reporting.” The video can be seen below courtesy of his Vimeo page.
Our Thoughts and prayers are with Hetherington’s friends and family during this time. His other works can be viewed from his Website, Film Page, Vimeo, and The New York Times lens blog.
