Getting Cinematic with the Sony NEX-5N: The Digital Visual Style

A lot has been made of the video capabilities of the Sony NEX-5N and rightfully so. Never before have we seen a compact interchangeable lens camera pack so much video prowess, touting Full-HD integration up to 1080/60p, a first for camera at that price-point.

Through some minor setting tweaks, the pint-sized powerhouse from Sony can produce some rather cinematic images. As I stated before, I recommend heading over to EOSHD.com, where Andrew Reid detailed the a how-to guide for NEX-5N video optimization. The cinematic look in question was first achieved by Marlon Torres and his early NEX-5N video: “Pacifica.” Although not Panasonic GH2 quality, the images rendered were quite pleasant and reinforced the notion that Sony produced quite the capable little video camera.

Intellectual Ventures Suing Nikon for Patent Infringement

Intellectual Ventures LLC has filed suit against Nikon Corp. for “infringing on four patents related to digital-camera technology.” Intellectual Ventures is an invention company founded my Microsoft’s Chief Technology Officer, Nathan Myhrvold. The company was even reported to have contacted Nikon about an amicable resolution to the problem on two separate instances to no avail.  Here are the four patents in question:

Ahead of the reported November 8th announcement date, a group of leaked images of the Lumix GX1 appeared on the Taiwanese forum Mobile01, which have since been removed. Eerily similar to the early community crafted mock-ups, the GFX1 looks like a complete mesh of the Panasonic GF1 and the LC1, containing apparent characteristics of both in terms of body design.

Leica Announces the Elmarit-S 30mm F/2.8 ASPH Lens. Bank Accounts Run for Cover…

Today, Leica unveiled a new semi-wide angle lens for their professional, medium-format, S-System. The Elmarit-S 30mm f/2.8 looks virtually identical to its 35mm Summarit sibling but contains two more lens elements, 13 total arranged in 9 groups, and a closer focusing distance of 0.5m. In 35mm format, this fast prime has the effective focal distance of 24mm, creating an diagonal, horizontal, and vertical angle of view of 84, 74, and 53 degrees respectively.
