Canon 1D and 1DS Lines will Merge on October 18th

With all the recent Canon news being reported, there might as well be start a of new section to The Digital Visual devoted to the latest, up-to-the-minute Canon rumblings and rumors. Given the ever-changing landscape of loose talk and unconfirmed reports, it’s a bit difficult to weed out what’s credible and what’s not. However, when someone by the likes of Craig Blair from CanonRumors.com dishes out some info, it’s in our best interest to take note.

CanonRumors is indeed confirming what we all presumed to be true by now, the Canon 1D and 1DS DSLR lines will merge into one, soon to be named, model. Furthermore, here are the latest, and most likely last, specification details before this monster is revealed next week:

Sony Confirms Their Next High-End Camera Will be Called the “A9X”

Earlier in the week, you may recall we posted a rumor that Sony may indeed be following in Nikon’s footsteps and could be prepping a 36 megapixel, full-frame camera of their own. It seems as though Paul Genge of Sony UK caught wind of the speculation and posted this insightful message on Facebook:

It never ceases to amaze me how the rumor mill accelerates from one model to the next, to the next and so on. Stock of the a77 has not reached most markets yet, but people are guessing “what next” I almost felt like posting only “lol”. However, in actual fact its probably better to state that the a77 is now in the range for a while, and the next high end introduction will be featuring the number ’9x’ naming… now watch what happens to the rumor mill!

There you have it, let the endless speculation commence!

Throwable Camera Ball Captures 360-Degree Panoramas When Tossed

Your next game of kickball will never be the same.

A German computer engineer by the name of Jonas Pfeil created a simple, yet ingenious new piece of photographic swag, aptly named: The Throwable Camera Ball. Packed with 36, two-megapixel cameras, the ball records 360-degree panorama images when thrown into the air.

The camera is thrown into the air and captures an image at the highest point of flight – when it is hardly moving. The camera takes full spherical panoramas, requires no preparation and images are taken instantaneously. It can capture scenes with many moving objects without producing ghosting artifacts and creates unique images.

Although it’s green cushioning begs for the chance to play in a quick game of dodge-ball, it’s more meant to be used in the manner showcased in the video below:
