Nikon Issues a Service Notice – Certain EN-EL15 Li-ion Batteries Being Recalled Due to “Overheating”

Today, Nikon released an official service notice regarding their EN-EL15 Lithium-Ion Batteries, issuing a recall on a certain number of units which are used in the D7000, D800, D800E, and Nikon 1 V1 cameras.

While it seems as so those users have yet to experience an issue, Nikon is claiming a small number of EN-EL15 batteries are subject to overheating, so much so in fact that the exterior casing may “become deformed” as a result of the heat.

Fuji Plans to Silence the “Chatter” – Firmware Version 1.01 Released for the X-Pro1 and XF Lenses

Fuji has just released the first firmware update for their flagship mirrorless offering the X-Pro1, aiming for version 1.01 to correct the rather annoying occurrence now dubbed “chattering” – a noise that can be heard when the aperture blades automatically adjust to light when the camera is moved, an occurrence audible in the video below:

Czechoslovakian Secret Police’s Unintentional Contributions to Street Photography

In a series of images released by the Institute for the Study of Tolitarian Regimes in their publication entitled Prague Through the Lens of Secret Police, it seems as though Soviet-era Czechoslovakian secret police inadvertently contributed to the realm of street photography in an effort to crack down on crime.

Light Painting + Bullet-Time = A Fantastically Immersive Visual Test

It only takes a few minutes of roaming around the interwebs to encounter some fantastic displays of creativity incorporating the use of light painting or Matrix-esque bullet-time wizardry to produce unique, and more often than not, compelling visual imagery.

With that being said, however, it’s rare to see both techniques used simultaneously – a visual feat Richard Kendall was able to accomplish in the video above. Kendall lined-up 96 cameras, each containing 30 second sequential exposures and, as he calls it, “a lot of running around with lights.” The results are nothing less than stunning, take a look.

Canon Reveals Findings of Their “Light-Leak” Investigation – Releases an Unrelated Firmware Update

As promised, Canon has completed their prompt investigation into the 5D Mark III’s light-leak phenomenon, an issue that has been affecting numerous early adopters since the camera’s recent release. While many have experienced value changes in the 5D3′s metering system when the top LCD is illuminated in dark situations, Canon has confirmed that, while these fluctuations do exist on the surface, it does not affect the final image out come stating:
