Last week, Nikon announced the fastest lens to date for their growing 1-series of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, revealing the 32mm f/1.2 standard prime which will sit atop the system’s current lens offerings as a premium option. While the eagerly-anticipated lens is expected to hit retail next month, pre-orders have now opened at the familiar major online retailers including B&H and Adorama.
Australia-based landscape, nature and wilderness photographer, Joshua Holko, was recently lucky enough to spend some time with the latest iteration of the long-rumored and long-awaited Canon 200-400mm f/4L IS 1.4x – testing one of only a handful of known prototypes, and sharing his initial thoughts in the video below.
One of the more interesting finds at this year’s CP+ imaging show in Yokohama, Japan may have come from the unlikely collaboration between Kipon and German lens maker IBE Optics, and their unveiling of a new, super fast, f/0.85 standard prime for a variety of mirrorless camera systems.

A fresh batch of XF 14mm f/2.8 R sample images have just been released to the public by Fuji, giving us our first chance to see what the highly-anticipated wide angle prime can bring to the table in terms of image quality.

Quick News – Fuji has officially announced plans to divert the production efforts for their upcoming Fujinon 14mm F/2.8 in lieu of the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4′s apparent strong sales. The wide-angle prime was initially expected to start shipping later this month, but given the current demand priorities, will be pushed back until January 19th.

Sigma has just released the first sample images from their recently announced 35mm F1.4 DG HSM – a Hyper-Sonic-Motored, fast prime lens that’s set to be released by month’s end. The shots, all of which can be clicked for an original resolution view, were shot on the Sigma SD1 by photographer Kimio Yajima.
Without question, Sony has been spearheading the mirrorless camera movement and backing up the claims that DSLR quality can be found in much smaller packages with the success of their NEX line and stellar compact system cameras. While Sony has historically left the performance of their respective camera offerings do most of the talking, choosing to follow the traditional means of advertisement, their Australia branch has decided shake things up a bit, creating a humorous take on way bigger isn’t necessarily better, and how the future of photography will be a mirrorless one via a new YouTube channel called “DSLR Gear No Idea.”
