Photographer and Boulder, Colorado resident Shawn Heinrich, has been getting a lot of attention recently ever since he first posted the image above to his his Facebook page last week, an amazing shot of a whale shark snooping around a small yacht.
The seemingly perfect capture of a rare occurrence, taken off the coast of Isla Mujeres, has brought with it a slew of conspiracy theorists, painting the shot as nothing more than some post production wizardry.
However, Heinrich has been adamant about the validity of the shot, claiming:
The water was calm that day and the whale shark encounters were off the charts. I saw the sharks passing close to our boat so I swam back and waited. To get a shot like this requires a lot of technical know-how and experience because focusing on an object above and below the water at the same time is challenging…
…Also, getting the horizon line level and water off the lens is an exercise in patience and determination. Go for it and see what comes up.
What do you think? Is the image real, fake or a little of both? Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook or Twitter pages!
Congrats to Shawn for capturing the impeccable shot.
