Nikon Suffers Q3 Earnings Slide – Thailand Floodings Show Their Affects

Share

As expected, the affects of devastating Thailand floodings had a major impact on Nikon’s 3Q earnings, resulting in a rather bleak report when compared to 2010′s results for the same fiscal period.

The camera-maker’s “extraordinary” net losses tallied up to ¥3.7 billion, or approximately $48.5 million last quarter. A far cry from the net profit of ¥9.7 billion, or $127.3 million, Nikon enjoyed in Q3 2010.

Further detailing the financial slide, Nikon noted that year-over-year operating profits were down ¥8.2 billion from ¥18.6 billion, while total revenue suffered a 15% drop from ¥215.4 billion from ¥253.8 billion.

However, despite the grim news, Nikon’s future outlook for 2012 is optimistic, reporting expected net gains of ¥55 billion, or $721 million, while expected revenue is slated for ¥925 billion, or $12 billion.
