IFA 2011 – Panasonic Announces the 2D/3D HDC-Z10000 Camcorder

The IFA global electronic trade show 2011, held in Berlin, kicked off with an interesting announcement from Panasonic. The camera giant revealed the twin-lens HDC-Z10000 camcorder that has the ability to shoot 2D and 3D HD video and still images. The camcorder contains two CMOS sensors, a glasses-free 3D 3.5 inch LCD, and a “3D video macro setting with a twin-lens 3D camcorder at approximately 17.8 inches”. Very impressive! In true Panasonic fashion, information on pricing and availability was scarce, but can we assume to expect price somewhere in the vicinity of the newly announced Sony NEX VG20.

The Fuji X10 is Real! Announcement Expected this Week – X10/X100 Comparison

Images courtesy of Dan Carr Photography

Ahead of Fuji’s expected announcement due this coming Thursday, Dan Carr, via his blog, let the cat out of the bag and divulged a ton of new information regarding the upcoming X10. Not only did he offer the definitive specifications we can expect to see in a matter of days, he also compared practically every feature of the X10 to that of the X100.

As you can see, the Fuji X10 stands up quite nicely, in terms of specifications, to the X100. The X10 is even able to “1up” its bigger brother in a number of categories. It features a 1080p movie mode (compared to the X100′s 720p), a zoom-able, varied aperture lens (compared to the X100′s fixed lens), and a full 360-degree panorama mode (compared to 180-degrees on the X100). Check out the photos below to see the side-by-side size comparisons.

Be sure to check out Dan Carr’s full preview and comparison on his website, dancarrphotography.com. It’s truly amazing to see that many of the features that made the Fuji X100 so incredibly popular are in fact present on the X10. For $599.99, the X10 just may take the crown for compact, professional, photographic fun.

Two More Panasonic “X” Lenses Planned for Release in 2012 – 12-35mm and 35-100mm “Fast Zooms”

Riding on the wave of yesterday’s Panasonic X-series lens announcements, we now have two more pieces of “X” glass to look forward to in the coming year. Rumored to be released sometime in first half of 2012, these two lenses will carry the title of being “Fast Zooms” because of the expected large maximum F-stop. My guess is a constant F/2.8, but time will ultimately tell what Panasonic has up their sleeves. The next two additions to the X-series will carry a focal length from twelve to one hundred millimeters, the 12-35mm (pictured to the left) and the 35-100mm (pictured to the right). Similar to the optics announced yesterday, these lenses will feature optical stabilization, as well as nano-crystal coatings. Stay tuned for more information as it is delivered.

Panasonic Announces the “X” Series of Lenses

Panasonic took a page from Canon today and announced their own series of top-notch glass which will fall under the Panasonic X-series of lenses. The first two pieces of glass unveiled were the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and the 45-175 f/4-5.6. Both will be available in either silver or black and carry a price tag of $399.99 and $449.99 respectively. One very intriguing new feature found on these lenses is the side-mounted rocker which lens you adjust the focal length using the internal zoom motor. Click on the image below to see it in action.

Both lenses are much smaller and lighter than their current counterparts, and also feature optical stabilization, as well as the infamous nano-crystal coating, which helps with all that nasty ghosting and flaring. Both lenses will be available for purchase in October.
