Aside from the reemergence of talk regarding the 7D Mark II, one of the more long-standing and lingering rumors from the Canon front has been the expected announcement of a true pancake lens in the form of an EF 40mm f/2.8. Just like clockwork, the reports of its expected unveiling have come back once more, this time with Canon Rumors highest stamp of probability, classifying the following details as “fact.”
According to sources close to CR, the EF 40mm f/2.8 will not be an L-lens and will be “very thin.” Further emphasizing the fact that this pancake will not be an L-lens comes its reported price-tag – less than $300.00 USD.
While exact details are still scare at this point, Canon’s new 40mm pancake is expected to be announced alongside the T4i and a new 18-135mm kit lens in June. It’s also been mentioned in the past that this pancake lens could, in fact, be the kit lens for Canon’s illusive mirrorless offering. Next month may be shaping up to be quite the month Canon. Stay tuned!
