Continuing on with a day that has already proved to be chocked full of eventful Canon news comes even more foreseeable announcement talk, this time in the form of lenses and accessories. Canon Rumors, who also broke news of the expected Canon 5D Mark III announcement date, caught wind of the following:
Although the fine details are still a bit vague and announcement dates have yet to be confirmed, we should expect to see the EF-S 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 II, EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4X, and EF 40 f/2.8 Pancake, as well as the Canon 590EX Speedlite very soon.
The EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 II will be announced alongside the Canon T4i (650D), presumably on March 2nd, as a kit option. The zoom, which has already shown up in a “US retailer inventory system,” will reportedly be optimized for video, featuring a silent autofocus motor.
The EF-200-400mm f/4L IS 1.4X and shocking 40mm f/2.8 pancake have even less to go by in terms of details, other than the new L-series super tele-zoom will be priced around $11,000.00, while the welcomed pancake is expected to be unveiled with the 5D2′s successor.
Canon Rumors is also reporting that a fairly large, unnamed US retailer has listed the Canon 580EX II Speedlight as “EOL (End of Life),” leaving the door wide open for the revamped 590EX to make its debut, also rumored to be unveiled alongside the 5D Mark III/5D X.
As with all of today’s reports, expect to hear more detailed information as the days progress.
