With Sony’s new full-frame pint-sized Alpha A7 and A7R generating a world of buzz since their announcement last week, it’s surely only a matter of time before the market piggybacks their foreseeable successes, and according to Nikon Rumors, Nikon may be the first camera maker to imitate Sony’s new formula.
Sources have pointed to the anticipated announcement of a retro-styled, full-frame camera from Nikon similar in size and style to Sony’s aforementioned Alpha A7. This new camera is rumored to share the same 35mm sensor found in the Nikon D4, pack an Expeed 3 imaging processor and a pentaprism viewfinder, which would eliminate its chances of being a mirrorless offering.
Could Nikon really be giving us the camera we’ve begged for?
Nikon Rumors is also reporting that this new mystery camera will have a standard Nikon F-mount and “will meter even with non-AI lenses down to full aperture.” Moreover, the camera is said to be announced with a special-edition Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 that will mimic the look and feel of the new camera body.
If the rumors are correct, we could see Nikon confirm these reports by month’s end – stay tuned!
