After Sigma’s website prematurely posted the 24-105mm F/4’s product detail page earlier in the week, the firm wasted little time whipping up a press release and stamping their new standard zoom as official.
The lens, which tips the scales at just under 2 pounds, contains 19 elements arranged in 14 groups, including an SLD, FLD and a double-sided aspheric lens element for the prevention of distortion and aberrations. Moreover, the 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM utilizes Sigma’s proprietary Hyper Sonic Motor and Optical Stabilization technology for quick, silent focusing and sharper images at slower shutter speeds.
Being an “Art” lens, we can expect superb image quality at a price that won’t break the bank, even though Sigma has yet to stamp a price-point on this particular optic.
It will be interesting to see exactly how Sigma’s 24-105 stacks up against the likes of its Canon counterpart – a lens which many amateurs and professionals alike choose for its fantastic flexibility.
