Developing Rumor: Nikon To Produce an Entry-Level Full Frame DSLR in the D600?

Share

Nikon’s decision to pump medium format-esque megapixels into the D800 left somewhat of a void in the camera maker’s product line. While its numbered distinction would classify it as a clear D700 successor on paper, many believe it has lost the broad spectrum appeal its predecessor enjoyed. In fact, Nikon themselves has openly declared the D800 as a whole new category of camera and not an actual D700 replacement it was presumed to be.

Full Frame, Alpha/NEX Hybrid-Mount Camera on the Way From Sony?

Share

One of the more talked about and lust-over faint dreams of a camera is a full-frame version of the NEX-7, meshing all the qualities that make Sony’s most sought-after prosumer camera in recent memory even more appealing with the benefits of a large sensor. Well, it looks like we might get that, and then some in 2012.

Not One. Not Two. But Three Full-Frame Cameras From Sony in 2012?

Share

SonyAlphaRumors has been putting together the pieces to Sony’s 2012 camera puzzle and believes, from trusted sources, that three full-frame offerings are set to be unveiled in the coming year.

The first two SLTs will carry the rumored A9X title, possibly the A99, and according to SAR, will come in two varieties: a 24MP and 34MP version with the latter containing a built-in vertical grip. The third camera is neither pure NEX nor SLT but rather a possible “hybrid-mount” and something completely new from Sony, or anyone else for that matter.

Watch Out Nikon, Sony May be Prepping a Full Frame 36MP Camera as well.

Quick News - As Nikon sets their sites on pole-position in the race for megapixels, Sony may just be gaining ground with their own full-frame 36 megapixel offering. SonyAlphaRumors received some “credible” information from a “trusted” source and revealed the following:

I have been told by our sources that Sony will first share the sensor to Nikon and than use it on their own FF camera which will be announced early 2012! The exact release date has not been chosen yet but I have been told there are is a huge pressure to release it as soon as possible. Compared to the Nikon D800 the Sony (A99?) will have slightly different specs and a lower(!) price. The Nikon D800 can take 4 frames per second, records 1920 × 1080/30p and cost 300.000 Yen (3.000 Euro, or $4000). The major difference is that Nikon has an optical viewfinder while the Sony has SLT technology. Meanwhile the Sony A900 has been discontinued and you will see some nice rebates soon. I will keep you updated with specs and news I am getting form my sources. It’s really an exciting time.

With the current Alpha offerings already boasting a 24.3MP sensor, the jump to a full frame, 34MP variant only seems justifiable from Sony’s standpoint.
