Report: Sony Prepping a New 20MP APS-C Sensor – NEX-3N, Zeiss 50mm F/1.4 & 70-400G F/4.5-5.6 II Priced
Quick News - Ok, so it’s not the NEX-F5 or Alpha A99 leaks many of us were hoping we would see by now from Sony, but if there’s a compact point-and-shoot to get excited over, it may be the now revealed and soon-to-be-announced Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 shown above.
Earlier this month, we covered the latest updates surrounding the long-awaited and soon-to-be-unveiled full-frame Alpha SLT model from Sony due to make apparent appearance before, or during, Photokina 2012. While presumed credible specifications have been a bit hard to come by, as of late, the Sony A99 talk has begun to pick up speed with more and more details coming out of the woodward from sources on what the camera may in fact be capable of.
Giving this latest report their highest rank in presumed validity, the constantly spot-on folks at Sony Alpha Rumors have all but confirmed information from top sources close to Sony, revealing that not one, but two cameras are set to be unveiled in the foreseeable future, as well as a new E and A-mount zoom lens to boot.
While Sony has been enjoying the successes of their mirrorless and SLT cameras as of late, raking in the critic’s acclaim for the recent A65, A77, NEX-5N, and NEX-7 releases, the latest rumors paint the camera maker as returning to their conventional DSLR roots if the latest A600 talk pans out.
There’s no doubt Sony solidified themselves as a formidable force in the prosumer camera market with their tremendous offerings of 2011. Especially with the NEX-5N and NEX7, becoming staples of quality and performance wrapped up in a pint-sized package.
Hoping to ride the continued wave of momentum gathered from last year into 2012, SonyAlphaRumors is reporting credible word from “known-sources” that three new NEX cameras will land within the next eight months. According to SAR, the first NEX camera will be announced in April, with the second unveiling coming in the summer. The last will be showcased at Photokina 2012 held in Cologne, Germany from September 18th – 24th.
One of the more talked about and lust-over faint dreams of a camera is a full-frame version of the NEX-7, meshing all the qualities that make Sony’s most sought-after prosumer camera in recent memory even more appealing with the benefits of a large sensor. Well, it looks like we might get that, and then some in 2012.
With reportedly just a matter of hours before a slew of new Sony camera and accessory announcements take place, we have a quick appetizer to munch on before the main course news in expected to arrive. The photo above and below are believed to be in fact, one of the new lenses set to be unveiled shortly, the Carl Zeiss 24mm F/1.8 Sony NEX Lens. If we have learned anything from prior Ziess glass, we can assume this lens will be a top-performer in terms of optics and build quality. Be sure to stay tuned for all the expected Sony announcements as they come.
