After briefly teasing its existence and expected release on their official website, Samyang has made their super wide-angle plans for Sony NEX and Samsung NX cameras official, announcing the 180 degree field of view, 8mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Fisheye Lens.
Every now and again, one of the uber-rare Nikkor 6mm f/2.8 fisheyes make an appearance and set the inter-webs abuzz due to its extreme rarity, unique characteristics and oh yeah, that bank account breaking estimated price-tag of $160,000.00.
The latest case of its resurgence came just weeks ago, when Amateur Photographer was the first to report the legendary lenses’ availability for purchase at Grays of Westminster, a renowned UK retailer who houses goods solely catered to the Nikon shooter.
Nikon’s Legendary 6mm F/2.8 Fisheye Sells for £100,000, or Roughly $160,000 to a “Private Collector”
Ever since Amateur Photographer first broke the news of a rare Nikkor 6mm f/2.8′s sighting in London, the inter-webs have been abuzz, resulting in an exorbitant amount of attention and, undoubtedly, the means for which a lens of this price could be so promptly departed with.
Every once in a blue moon, one of the only few hundred in existence and incredibly expensive Nikkor 6mm f/2.8′s come out of the woodworks and makes an appearance, hoping to capitalize on its reported rarity and cash-in as a result. The latest sighting of Nikon’s legendary fisheye comes from London, where Amateur Photographer (AP) was informed by Gray Levett, co-founder of Grays of Westminster, that he spotted the immense piece of glass “around seven weeks ago” on an overseas trip.
After numerous mini-leaks intentionally released by Zeiss themselves in an effort to generate buzz for their new super wide angle offering, the Distagon T* 15mm F/2.8 has officially been unveiled, and as expected, the gorgeous-looking mesh of glass and metal is coming exclusively to Nikon and Canon mounts.
Quick News – Continuing on with their week of teases, Zeiss has posted two more small snapshots of the soon to be announced Distagon T* 15mm F/2.8 ZE, which is set to be unveiled this Friday, March 16th.
Last week we touched upon the latest Zeiss rumor regarding a new super wide angle prime expected to be announced this coming Friday, March 16th in the Distagon T* 15mm F/2.8 ZE. Adding a dose of absolute validity to those early claims comes confirmation from Zeiss themselves, taking to Facebook and revealing the first small teaser images of the lens shown above and below.
If the reports hold true, the Distagon T* 15mm F/2.8 ZE will be Zeiss’ widest lens offered for DSLRs, dethroning the current Distagon T* 18mm f/3.5 for the aforementioned honors. For comparisons sake, there is already a Leica M-mount Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 out on the market (shown above), which carries the hefty price tag of $4,600… Ouch. Let’s just hope we don’t experience that same sticker-shock if and when this rumored lens hits the market.
