Evan Luzi, founder of TheBlackandBlue.com, frequent contributor to NoFilmSchool.com and veteran camera assistant has come up with yet another fantastic addition to his informative site, creating a test covering the basics of depth-of-field and its implementation in real-world situations.

Hey Manuel — Thanks for featuring the DOF test! Glad to see people are willing to take the challenge
Just wanted to stop by and say thanks!
P.S. Not to be nitpicky, but my last name has one “Z” and the website is theblackandblue.com, not blackandblue.com
I’m a big fan of your insight my friend & sorry about the mistakes – just fixed
Would love to see this quiz in a format that doesn’t include the second half. You’d get a lot more people taking it if it didn’t have half of the score dependent upon cameras that only a unique subset of people know anything about. The second half is exactly why I’m not sharing it with my circle of friends. That said, the first portion is really good and really sheds light on how much one does and doesn’t know about aperture.
Hey David — I appreciate the feedback, but the second half is more the whole reason I designed the quiz — cause I wanted to test myself!
The Black and Blue is a website that caters exactly to that subset of people who would know about those cameras (filmmakers, camera assistants, cinematographers). So while I appreciate that it would open to more general audience if I cut it out, it would alienate the readership that I value most.
To be honest, I didn’t expect (perhaps naively) so many photography or DSLR outlets to pick up on the quiz.
All that said — the next quiz will be much less challenging
Best,
Evan

P.S. Apologies for the double comment — I sent an email to Manuel. On a (somewhat) public computer and the email form got auto-filled with something else.
