We usually don’t see much from Nikon when it comes to high-priced limited-edition variants of previously released cameras – Leica usually takes top billing in that department, but every now and again, Nikon aficionados find something rare to get excited about, and in this case it comes in 24-karat gold.
According to all accounts, only 2,000 gold-painted and lizard-skinned Nikon FA’s, like the one pictured above, were made in commemoration of the Japanese photo industry’s “most prestigious camera award” – The 1984 ‘Camera Grand Prix.’ – a distinction that the Nikon FA was awarded in the aforementioned year.
Deep-pocketed individuals can currently score the above-pictured Nikon FA, matching gold-accentled 50mm f/1.4, and commemorative packaging for $4,800. Hey, we didn’t say owning a slice of camera history would be cheap!
